I always blow air from a compressior thru the motor backwards of the normal water flow before replacing the LU back on the motor. This can be done at the phole on the motor.Look at the engine as a big air pump. If is it not efficient it will show most at low speeds. Your engine has a idle stabilizer, a black box on the front top of the engine. Disconnect it and set the timing in the water where it will idle at about 750 rpm in gear.
