I bought the family plan and invited my wife via LINE. She can open the invitation link from LINE (and there is a little text in the upper left saying it was opened in LINE), and be on the family plan. I've regularly used the invitation link for a long time, I found friends that used Duolingo and invited them to join, it worked as usual.
