I still don't see a lot of 1301s. They didn't really do a much better job with their ready out-of-the box gun than Benelli. The 1301 still needs the same work as most factory shotguns. I think the 1301 is a great shotgun, it just isn't as ready to race as advertised.The M4 is a tank, very heavily built with a big following. 1301 has a more adjustable rear ghost ring sight as it is adjustable for windage and elevation. it'll also most likely interchange with the A300. A300 sight is polymer/plastic. It's got an awesome gas system and some weight behind it. V3 is essentially the same gas system in a lighter gun. I had a V3 cut down to 18.5" and that thing is friggin quick. Beretta 1301 Comp Pro. Unlike previous incarnations of the 1301, the Competition Pro comes out of the box ready to compete. The magazine tube can hold 10 rounds of 2.75-inch shells, which is the standard for competition. This gun features a vent rib topped with a high-visibility front sight for easy use. The downside is the fixed 14-inch LOP.

It seems that both the 1301 and M4 are designed with the defensive/tactical shooter primarily in mind. Both companies offer models for hunters and clay shooters that are better suited to those tasks. The main difference between the M4 and 1301 seems to be inertia vs. gas within the realm of 3-gun competition and defense. Just my 2 cents.

Between these two, as others have stated, the main difference is the weight, the other difference is the M4 has two small gas pistons while the Beretta has only one large piston. The Beretta will cycle much faster than the M4 as well. Benelli and the M1, M2, M3, and M4 series have dominated alongside guns like the Beretta 1301 and America had lagged behind in terms of modern, tactical, semi-auto shotguns. We dominated the pump market, but the Italians ruled the semi-autos until recently when Mossberg released the 940 Pro Tactical semi-auto shotgun.The Mossberg 940 Tactical can be found for $900 - $1200. Meanwhile, the Beretta 1301 will cost $1300 - $1600..depending on the model. I do not own the Mossberg 940 T..but I do own both the Benelli M4 & Beretta 1301 Tactical..Benelli M4 all day long!
