A classic book that challenges the West's dominant view of the East as "other" and argues for a more equal and respectful dialogue. Learn about the origins, methods, and implications of orientalism in history, culture, and politics. Part 2 of the book, Orientalist Structures and Restructures, was particularly difficult to get through. The cross examination of written works by different authors and the general tone in this section, I found difficult to read. I continuously lost my focus and had to go back.Overall, Orientalism is a solid book and an important book.Orientalism is not “to mock East Asian cultures”, although it can certainly contribute to or culminate in the mockery of East Asian cultures.
