I had a cervical check at 37 weeks and was not dilated or effaced at all. Then I had one at 39 weeks and was not dilated or effaced at all. Then I had one yesterday on my due date and am 1 cm and 75% effaced. I've tried EVERYTHING but caster oil and now I'm a day overdue and feel no symptoms. So probably not what you want to hear lolFTM.
